2024 NBA All-Star: MVP Odds for 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey, For the first time in his career, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey is an NBA All-Star

For the first time in his career, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey is an NBA All-Star.

During Sunday’s game, the fourth-year veteran will check in as a reserve for the Eastern Conference All-Stars, playing for his former head coach, Doc Rivers.

So far, Maxey is 0-1 in All-Star weekend events. On Saturday, the young guard participated in the NBA Skills Challenge, a three-team event that features passing, shooting, and dribbling competitions.

Maxey, who represented Team All-Stars, playing alongside Toronto’s Scottie Barnes and Atlanta’s Trae Young, came up short against the Indiana Pacers’ three-man squad of Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner, and Bennedict Mathurin.

The first-time All-Star will search for success in Sunday’s final event.

NBA ALL-STAR MVP ODDS

What are the odds for Tyrese Maxey taking home the MVP hardware?

Well, it’s a long shot for the reserve. According to SI Sportsbook, Maxey’s line sits at +5,000. He’s tied with Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl Anthony-Towns and Boston Celtics forward, Jaylen Brown.

Four players are placed below Maxey. Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young sits behind him at +6,000. The young veterans Scottie Barnes and Paolo Banchero are +8,000. Meanwhile, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo has the lowest odds of all at +10,000.

As for the favorites, Milwaukee Bucks big man Giannis Antetokounmpo is at the top with odds at +500. Los Angeles Lakers veteran LeBron James and Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton are behind him at +700.

Last season, Jayson Tatum took home the award for the first time. If he can manage to pick up another this year, he would become the 15th player in NBA history to win the award multiple times.

As for Maxey, he’s competing to become the first Sixer to win the All-Star MVP award for the first time since 2005, when Allen Iverson collected his second nod. Since then, the Sixers have had 13 appearances in the All-Star game, including Iverson in 2010, Andre Iguodala in 2012, Jrue Holiday in 2013, and Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons on several occasions from 2018 and so on.

With Embiid out for Sunday’s game due to a knee injury, Maxey will be the lone Sixer on the court in Indiana. Winning MVP will be a very tall task, but you can never say never when it comes to the NBA.
