The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly close to locking in a young teammate of Ja Morant who averaged over 20 points per game last season, with a major extension nearly finalized.

Ja Morant could be feeling some relief heading into next season if the Memphis Grizzlies finalize an extension with one of his key teammates—a player who averaged 22.2 points per game and played a crucial role in most of the matchups he appeared in.
According to a report from Shams Charania, the Grizzlies are nearing the completion of a renegotiated deal with Jaren Jackson Jr. worth $240 million over the next five years—one of the most significant contracts the franchise has signed in recent memory.
“The Memphis Grizzlies and All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. are expected to agree on a five-year, $240 million maximum renegotiation-and-extension,” Charania reported on X. “Head of CAA Basketball Austin Brown and CAA agent Max Saidman negotiated the new agreement with the Grizzlies.”
A Hefty Contract for a Key Grizzlies Player
The focus of Jaren Jackson Jr.’s future contract isn’t just the $240 million total; it also reportedly includes a player option in the final year. This option is designed to give the player more flexibility when deciding his NBA future.

It’s clear that Jackson Jr.’s performance alongside Ja Morant over the past two seasons earned him the right to renegotiate and command more money from the Grizzlies. Averaging over 22 points for two consecutive years is a feat few players can achieve.
Will Jackson Jr. Have the Grizzlies’ Largest Salary?
Ja Morant’s average annual salary is $39 million. Once Jackson Jr. officially signs his new five-year extension worth $48 million annually, he will surpass Morant to become the highest-paid player on the Grizzlies, moving Morant into second place.
