4-star WR Update: After official visit, Wolverines DL commit to Auburn Tigers
The Tigers have put themselves squarely in the picture for a top-100 prospect currently who committed to Michigan earlier this spring
A late addition to this weekend’s big official visitor list was Nate Marshall, a top-100 recruit who committed to Michigan in April. It was his second time visiting campus in less than two months from his hometown of Oak Park, Illinois, in the Chicago suburbs.
And even though geographically much closer to his committed program, Auburn continues to feel like a good fit for Marshall.
“Every time I come to Auburn, it feels like home,” Marshall said. “Now I really have just got to make that choice (between Auburn and Michigan) — those are really the last ones.”
The No. 80 recruit in the country is officially trimming his recruitment, with the Tigers right on the heels of the Wolverines.
4-star WR says Auburn ‘up there’ following official visit
Travis Smith talks about his official visit to Auburn.
Already very familiar with the Tigers before taking the visit over the weekend, Smith said Auburn has moved into a much stronger position for him following his look at the campus, facilities, and spending time with the players and coaches.
“A bunch,” Smith said when asked how much Auburn helped themselves. “They’re up there. I can’t say, but they got up there. I’m going to tell you that.”
Hanging out with not only the wide receivers, but also with guys like Keldric Faulk and Damari Alston, Smith said he got a great feel for what Auburn is all about on his visit.
“It was great,” he said of the weekend. “It was awesome. Got to spend some time talking to the guys and teammates. Got to network with some of the guys that are getting recruited. All in all, it was a great experience.
“It was very important because end of the day, that’s what I’m judging on,” Smith added of the time spent with the current players on the team. “Just seeing how I vibe with the guys and seeing if that will work out for me. Sometimes you get a good vibe and sometimes you don’t. This one was great.”
One of the keys for Smith was getting to see how he would be used in the offense and also learning more about Davis and the wide receiver position for the Tigers. Now that he’s seen and heard those things, he said there’s plenty to like about the Tigers as he gets closer to a decision.
“All the presentations, they were great,” Smith said. “But most importantly, they had the freshman receivers talk to me. That was the most important part. They talked to me when we were just chopping it up. They were keeping it real. Because you can always hear about the rainbows and cupcakes from the coaches. But they brought in the actual freshman receivers and that was an eye-opener.
“What I’m seeing isn’t all fake. The guys actually enjoy it here. They go out work every day and they enjoy doing what they do. Just hearing that from them, that was great.”
Having already visited Georgia and with trips coming up to Alabama next week and Tennessee the week after that, Smith said once those are done he’ll sit down with his family and also have plenty of prayer time as he gets ready to make a commitment.
