For the 49ers vs. Packers game, Mike Greenberg predicts the score
One of the biggest matchups of the weekend will be the Green Bay Packers vs. the San Francisco 49ers.
Both have some recent playoff history with each other, but that was with two different quarterbacks.
This time around, it’ll be Brock Purdy vs. Jordan Love in a game between two young passers who’ve ascended quickly in the NFL.
But quarterbacks don’t make a team, and ESPN’s Mike Greenberg posted on social media that he’s picking the 49ers to win, 41-23, because of how bad the Packers defense is.
“Moment won’t be too big for Jordan Love but his defense isn’t up to this,” Greenberg wrote. “#Packers are a nice pick for next year’s Super Bowl, but SF is the overwhelming favorite to make it to this one.”
The Packers showed just a week ago they can play with the best teams in the NFL after they took down the Dallas Cowboys behind a high-flying offense.
But the 49ers are a different breed of football team with a top-flight offense and defense.
Purdy and the offense can put up points in bunches with Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk as his pass-catchers, while the defense led by Fred Warner is one of the most impenetrable in the league.
So the issue for Green Bay might not be that Love can’t go toe-to-toe with Purdy, but that the defense may not be able to stop the 49ers enough for the Packers to keep up against a better defense on the other side.
