Braves re-sign Sessional reliever for three year, $26M deal, which put them as the favorite to win the 2024 World Series
Pierce Johnson and Joe Jiménez, the two most effective free agents in the Braves’ bullpen, have returned.
The Atlanta Braves announced this morning that reliever Joe Jiménez has been re-signed to a three-year, $26 million contract.
Last November, Jiménez, 28, was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for prospect slugger Justyn-Henry Malloy. He pitched in 59 games for Atlanta in his rookie season, going 0-3 with a 3.04 ERA over 56.1 innings. He only gave up 14 walks while striking out 73.
Jiménez received $26 million over the course of the contract, with a salary of $8 million in 2024 and $9 million in both 2025 and 2026. Jiménez will donate 1% of his salary to the Atlanta Braves Foundation, as is customary for long-term agreements and free agency wages in Atlanta.
The combination of bringing back Jiménez and Pierce Johnson, who signed a two-year, $14.25 million contract with a club option for a third year last week, will go a long way toward helping the team.
The Braves now have five days to decide on the remainder of that group, with Kirby Yates and Collin McHugh having expensive club options and Brad Hand having a mutual option, following the completion of the postseason last night.
Congratulations to the Texas Rangers on winning the 2023 World Series, their first triumph in 52 years.
