76ers News: Furkan Korkmaz Provides Career Update After Clearing Waivers

76ers News: Furkan Korkmaz Provides Career Update After Clearing Waivers, Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers Injury Report

At the trade deadline, multiple members of the Philadelphia 76ers saw themselves moved to new places. Among those was Furkan Korkmaz, who was one of the longest-tenured players on the roster. He was dealt to the Indiana Pacers alongside Marcus Morris in exchange for Buddy Hield.

Not long after the trade became official, Korkmaz was waived by the Pacers. He recently took to social media to provide what is next for him in terms of his career.

With the All-Star break looming, Kormaz plans to take a trip back to his home country of Turkey. This was planned prior to him being traded and eventually waived. From there he plans to return to the United States and look for a new home in the NBA. Korkmaz stated that his agent is already in talks with a handful of teams regarding a free-agent contract.

Korkmaz, 26, has spent his entire NBA career with the Sixers. The team selected him with the 26th overall pick in the 2016 draft. Over the past seven seasons, he has seen his role with the Sixers constantly change.

This season, Korkmaz was not a regular part of Nick Nurse’s rotation. He averaged 8.6 minutes per game, his lowest since his rookie year. Prior to being traded, Korkmaz was averaging 2.5 PPG and 0.7 APG.

Still in what is considered a player’s prime years, Korkmaz could garner interest around the league. While his shot has been inconsistent at times, he’s proven to be capable of being an effective floor spacer when given the chance. Korkmaz’s best shooting season came in 2020 when shot 40.2% from deep on close to five attempts per game.

At this point, only time will tell if Korkmaz lands a deal this season or has to try his luck again when free agency begins in the offseason.

Butler, Rozier, and Richardson were sidelined against the Bucks, but Nikola Jovic and Duncan Robinson stepped up in their place. The tandem combined 47 points on 16 of 25 shooting. Their absences are crucial, but the Heat’s ability to knock down shots from three-point range balanced the losses on Tuesday.

The 76ers have struggled to find success with Embiid sidelined this season. Not to mention, Harris, Batum, and Melton are key contributors in the lineup.

The Heat have an opportunity to capitalize on the Sixers shorthanded rotation but must play to their potential to avoid defeat.
