76ers News: Nick Nurse Updates on Two Starting Players
Following their Christmas Day game against the Miami Heat, the Philadelphia 76ers headed to Orlando to face the Magic. Head coach Nick Nurse delivered information on two starters who had been out of action in the days leading up to the game.
The Sixers have been missing Nicolas Batum and Joel Embiid in their previous games. The veteran forward has a hamstring ailment, while the reigning MVP injured his ankle in an uncomfortable manner against the Toronto Raptors.
Nurse was asked about the status of Batum and Embiid during his pregame availability. He believes Batum could return to the lineup this weekend. The Sixers play back-to-back games against the Houston Rockets and the Chicago Bulls on Friday and Saturday.
Embiid, on the other hand, did not accompany the club on this road trip. The training staff continues to deal with him and his damaged ankle while he is still in Philadelphia. Nurse was unable to provide a specific time frame for his return to the lineup.
Despite being without Embiid and Batum, the Sixers were able to get back to their winning ways in Orlando. Led by Tyrese Maxey (23 points) and Tobias Harris (22 points), they were able to take down the Magic by a final score of 112-92. This marked the first time this season the Sixers were able to win a game with Embiid out of the lineup.
Situations like this are where being one of the deeper teams in the league is a luxury. Even without two starters, Nurse has an array of talented players to utilize. The shorthanded squad will look to keep their winning ways going on Friday night as they travel to Houston to take on the Rockets.
