Recently, a breakdown of the value a player brings compared to their contract made its way to social media. Among the top players outperforming their deal is rising star Tyrese Maxey. The only players adding more value are Tyrese Haliburton and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is in the MVP conversation.
Maxey, 23, is in the final year of his rookie deal. Now the No. 2 for the Sixers on a nightly basis, he has emerged as an All-Star-caliber player. This season, he is averaging 26.1 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 6.7 APG. The young guard is vying for his first All-Star nomination, as he currently sits fifth in the fan voting among Eastern Conference point guards.
While Maxey is on a bargain deal now, this is going to change in the near future. After this season, he will become a restricted free agent. Following this breakout season, the Sixers should be preparing to offer him a max contract extension. This will solidify him as Joel Embiid’s running mate now and for the foreseeable future.
At the bottom of the list is another name that sticks out for the Sixers. That being Ben Simmons, who is providing the least amount of value based on his deal. Simmons continues to deal with injuries and has only played in six games this season.
The former No. 1 pick is the highest paid player on the Brooklyn Nets’ roster at the moment. Simmons is owed $37 million this season and $40 million next season before his contract expires.
Maxey is providing great value for the Sixers, and has proven he is capable of being a pillar for the franchise moving forward. Alongside Embiid, he continues to blossom into one of the NBA’s most electrifying guards.
