Reece Walsh TV move raises eyebrows as widely believed notion proven correct
fullback Reece Walsh has seemingly proven his critics right with a TV move that has rubbed Broncos fans the wrong way.
Reece Walsh has come under fire for launching a YouTube channel in the same week of Brisbane’s horror defeat to the Rabbitohs.
On Friday night the struggling, injury-hit Bunnies rallied from 14-0 down to secure a famous win 22-14, adding to Michael Maguire’s woes.
While Brisbane remains without their star fullback Walsh, who sustained a PCL injury last month, the superstar fullback has been busy pursuing other avenues.
Walsh is set to make his return in the coming weeks and fans would have been hoping his full attention would be on turning around the Broncos’ struggling season.
However, instead, he made headlines on the weekend for announcing he has launched a new YouTube channel called ‘Reece TV’ which gives fans a behind-the-scenes look into the 22-year-old’s life.
The announcement was largely met with frustration by fans who believed it reinforced the theory that he cares more about his image and fame than producing on the park.
“Working to be movie stars off the field, but pretenders on it. This is one of the main issues at the club,” one frustrated Broncos fan wrote.
“Probably better off to concentrate on footy atm than trying to expand ‘Brand Reece’,” another chipped in.
While a third wrote: “String a few good games together before you worry about YouTube”
Even Dolphins star and Walsh’s former teammate Herbie Farnworth was taken aback, commenting a facepalm emoji in the comments of Walsh’s social media post announcing his latest move.
Since making Walsh the Broncos’ latest million-dollar man ahead of the 2025 season, there have been worrying signs from the outset about how committed he is to becoming one of the best players in the NRL.
Many have long believed Walsh is more concerned about ‘looking cool’ by wearing bright nail polish and flashy accessories than with his end product on the footy field.
This notion was only further confirmed when Walsh rocked up to the NRL grand final in Versace sunglasses, which he proceeded to wear in the dressing room as he prepared for the biggest game of his life.
And after the latest stunt former NRL hard man James Graham said he can’t fathom how Michael Maguire and the Broncos ticked off Walsh’s latest project after a no-nonsense approach pre-season such as players having to wear shirts throughout training sessions.
“Where it (Reece Walsh TV) can become a problem is if you’ve set your environment in stone around what’s acceptable and what’s not and had all the players pull back, and then one player made the decision to do this. I don’t know if he had any consultation with the head coach, but that’s when it becomes a problem,” Graham said on the Sunday Sin Bin.
“Reece isn’t in the team at the moment, but that’s where things can bubble away underneath the surface and it’s like well, why are we allowing this and we’re not allowing other things? I think like with Maguire, if he’s been brought in to bring that hard edge, it’s not happening yet.”
However, Walsh defended the move telling Code Sports the YouTube channel allows him to show people another side to him.
“It’s a chance to have some fun and show people the real me,” Walsh said.
“Hopefully this gives people a better understanding of who I am, and what life is like for me off the field.”
A year in the making, Walsh has filmed a six-episode mini-series which will consist of behind-the-scenes footage and candid interviews with fellow sporting stars, such as Aussie golfer Cameron Smith.
“I’ve always wanted to find a way to share more of who I really am and connect with people beyond just footy,” Walsh said.
“This is just the beginning. I’ve got big plans for what’s to come, and I’m pumped to keep building this channel and give my fans a chance to see the real me.”
