NRL Casualty Ward: To’o, RCG return as Roosters stars resume training
Panthers superstar Brian To’o has overcome a hamstring injury and will make his return in Friday night’s match against Sydney Roosters at CommBank Stadium.
To’o travelled to Las Vegas with Penrith but missed the season opening match against the Sharks at Allegiant Stadium, won 28-22 by the four-time premiers.
The star winger strained his hamstring during training in Vegas and caused concern he may have done further damage when he performed a breakdance on stage at Fremont Street Experience for the NRL Fan Fest.
However, To’o has been cleared to play in Penrith’s first home match at CommBank Stadium after being forced to relocate while Panthers Stadium is rebuilt.
The Roosters will be without back-rower Victor Radley (concussion protocol) but have named centre Billy Smith among the reserves after completing successful hip and ankle rehabilitation.
In other injury news, Titans star recruit Reagan Campbell-Gillard will make his first appearance for the club against the Bulldogs after overcoming a shoulder injury.
Campbell-Gillard injured his shoulder at training in mid-January and didn’t play in the pre-season trials but has been cleared to take his place up front in Sunday’s match at Belmore.
Titans prop Josiah Pahulu (concussion) will miss his team’s first match of the season after having the Round 1 bye last weekend.

Eels forwards Shaun Lane (knee) and Kitione Kautoga (ankle) have been named to play in Sunday’s match against Wests Tigers at CommBank Stadium after missing last weekend’s trip to Melbourne.
St George Illawarra also welcome back prop Blake Lawrie from a hamstring injury for Saturday’s clash with South Sydney at WIN Stadium.
Cowboys enforcer Jason Taumalolo has been named among the reserves for Saturday night’s match against the Sharks in Townsville as he nears a return from a Lisfranc injury.
Meanwhile, the Roosters have provided a comprehensive update on their list of injured players, with halfback Sam Walker (knee) and hooker Brandon Smith (knee) having resumed partial training with the squad.
Egan Butcher is in the end stages of his ACL rehabilitation and is returning to match condition.
Xavier Va’a is 4 weeks post MCL injury and has received good reviews from the surgeon. He will recommence running next week.
Reece Foley had successful syndesmosis surgery last week and has commenced subsequent rehabilitation. Beniah Ioelu has recommenced AlterG rehabilitation for his tibial bone stress. Junior Pauga is completing end-stage lumbar spine rehabilitation and is returning to match condition.
Elsewhere, Dragons youngster Ryan Couchman will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after scans confirmed he had suffered a torn ACL.
Couchman played just eight minutes against the Bulldogs on Saturday before leaving the field with a right knee injury.
He will now undergo surgery and commence the rehabilitation process with a view to taking part in the side’s 2026 pre-season.
“Ryan had a great pre-season and we were looking forward to a big season from him,” said Dragons coach Shane Flanagan.
“I’ve got no doubt he will throw himself into his rehab with the same level of professionalism he approaches his training and we look forward to seeing him hit the ground running in 2026.”
The Dolphins will be without forwards Kulikefu Finefeuiaki (concussion protocols) and Connelly Lemuelu (fractured eye socket) for their Round 2 clash against the Knights.
The club reported that the nature of Lemuelu’s injury forced him to travel back to Brisbane by car because of risks associated with flying.
“In good news, Connelly will not require surgery on his eye socket,” said Dolphins head of performance Jeremy Hickmans.
“This is a positive as it brings the timeline for his return to the field down to around the four-week mark.”
Souths sensation Tyrone Munro will miss at least four weeks after suffering another collarbone injury against the Dolphins.
Munro fractured his collarbone during the 2024 pre-season and missed the first five rounds of the season. He returned in Round 6 but fractured his collarbone again.
The Eels are set to be without gun playmaker Mitch Moses for six weeks after scans revealed he has had a stress reaction in his left foot.
Moses suffered a biceps injury in last year’s Origin decider and hasn’t played for the Eels since Round 18, 2024 against Souths.
After originally citing soreness from a previous injury, the club has received more information and provided an update on Thursday afternoon.
”We have sought independent and expert medical opinions and following this advice Mitch will be in a boot for a few weeks and is expected to miss six weeks of football,” said general manager of football Mark O’Neill.
At the Sharks, promising youngster Liam Ison has ruptured his ACL while playing for partner club the Newtown Jets.
The 20-year-old injured his knee during the first 10 minutes of the NSW Cup match against Penrith and will undergo knee reconstruction surgery in the coming days.
Ison was tipped to challenge for a place in the Sharks top squad during 2025 after making his NRL against the Cowboys in 2024. He will now miss the remainder of the 2025 season.
Knights playmaker Tyson Gamble has undergone back surgery on the eve of Round 1, with the club saying he would commence rehabilitation immediately, with a return to play date to be determined.
Surgery also for Titans veteran Kieran Foran, who suffered a biceps tear in the trial game against the Dolphins in late February.
The 34-year-old is expected to be out for the next 12 weeks and will eye a return in May, dependent on his progression recovering from the procedure.
Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell will spend at least another month on the sidelines as the long-term impact of a disastrous training session takes shape.
The fullback picked up a hamstring injury in the same session that saw skipper Cameron Murray suffer a suspected ruptured Achilles on Wednesday.
Murray is facing a minimum five months on the sidelines, ruling him out of the State of Origin series and much of the NRL campaign. A worst-case scenario would see Murray spend the entire season on the sidelines.
At the Bulldogs, off-season recruit Enari Tuala suffered a broken foot at training and is out for up to 10 weeks while winger Jacob Kiraz continues to struggle with a hip injury.
Warriors winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has undergone surgery after suffering a fractured and dislocated wrist in the opening game of the Witzer Pre-Season Challenge. The club has set a return to play timeline of Round 10-14.
Sea Eagles hooker Lachlan Croker will miss the start of the season as he recovers from knee surgery.
The club has announced that the 28-year-old had arthroscopic surgery to his left knee before Christmas and is recovering well.
