Report: AC Milan face stumbling block in pursuit of signing Emerson Royal from Spurs
According to Sky Italia (as relayed by Sky Sports transfer blog), AC Milan might face some complications in signing Emerson Royal due to the Tottenham man’s non-EU status.
Over the last couple of weeks, a lot has been written about Milan’s interest in Emerson and Sky Italia have now become the latest outlet to report on the possible transfer.
They say that the Serie A side are prioritising strengthening at right-back this summer and that the Tottenham man has emerged as one of their top targets.
It is explained that Milan are now closing in on the appointment of Lille boss Paulo Fonseca, who is expected to replace Stefano Pioli at the San Siro.
AC Milan are still looking at Emerson Royal
The Portuguese coach can only start in his new role in July and the club are thus pushing ahead with their transfer plans before his arrival, with Emerson now on the agenda.
However, the outlet notes that the Brazilian’s non-EU status might be an issue for Milan since the club will now have to get rid of another non-EU player to make room in the squad for the 25-year-old.
Spurs Web Opinion
Milan would not have made an approach for Emerson without a plan on how he would be incorporated into their squad.
I suspect his non-EU status might not be a big issue, with the Rossoneri potentially planning some player sales this summer.
