Ange Postecoglou claims that the £164,000-a-week Tottenham striker has changed his mind

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has given his verdict on Timo Werner after signing the former Chelsea forward in the January transfer window.

Postecoglou does not seem to be worried about Werner’s struggles in the Premier League when he was at Chelsea.

So, what has Ange Postecoglou said about Timo Werner? Let’s take a look.

Ange Postecoglou praises new Tottenham Hotspur signing Timo Werner

Well, Tottenham Hotspur have recently signed Timo Werner. The former Chelsea forward has joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window.

The £164,000-a-week (SalarySport) Germany international forward will stay on loan at Tottenham until the summer of 2024. The Premier League club will then have the option to make the deal permanent.

Spurs will take on Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Werner is available for the match. While speaking to the media about the 27-year-old, Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou noted that the forward is a better and more mature player now than he was when he was at Chelsea.

The forward was on the books of Chelsea from 2020 until 2022 before moving back to RB Leipzig. Werner won the UEFA Champions League with the Blues in 2021, but he struggled to score goals.

Werner scored 10 goals and gave nine assists in 56 appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea.

Postecoglou told Football.London about Werner when asked if the forward having 16 disallowed goals at Chelsea was bad luck or not: “Again, that’s not the way I look at it. I’m looking at today and what he can give us today, not something that happened 3 or 4 years ago. I just don’t think it’s relevant.

“I dare suggest he’s a different player, he’s certainly a different person. We all, with more experiences, evolve, we grow up in many senses, there’s more maturity, he’s probably at a different stage of his life. So I don’t look at it that way.

“What I look at is if we bring Timo in, can he contribute to the side we have today and the way we play. Provided his motivations are right, I saw there was an opportunity for him and us to use this as a platform to help him help us improve our goals.”

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur fans should not write off Timo Werner. I think that everyone has to give the forward a second chance.

Yes, Werner struggled at Chelsea and failed to make a huge impact. But, he could do well at Spurs.

Tottenham play an attacking and fast brand of football with high intensity, and that could suit Werner.

The forward is very fast, and while he is not the best finisher in the game, if he is given the role of a creator or provider rather than a goalscorer in the Tottenham team, then he could flourish.
