76ers trading for these four(4) Realistic stars would balance out the roster and enhance their ceiling…..
The Philadelphia 76ers were recently linked to some big names expected to be available this summer, but here are four realistic stars they should trade for.
Barring a drastic, gut-wrenching curveball thrown their way, the Philadelphia 76ers are very likely to make the playoffs this season, While the team will have to pass the play-in test as currently positioned, it’s a near-certainty that the franchise will still have something to play for in their current campaign.
Having said that, there’s also a lot to look forward to in the offseason. In fact, the 76ers were already linked to a couple of big names tossed around in the rumor mill. Rumors are plain guesswork though, and fans would probably prefer to have actual options. Hence, here are four realistic stars the team should trade for this offseason.
76ers trading for Brandon Ingram would balance out the roster and enhance their ceiling
The Brandon Ingram experience has been a pretty pleasant one for the Pelicans for the most part. After all, the one-time All-Star has steadily improved each season, emerging as one of the best all-around forwards in the league for his upstart squad.
That he’s constantly sandwiched in between trade rumors for the past few years, however, is pretty telling of what the league’s opinion is on the Ingram-Zion Williamson dynamic that New Orleans is brewing. Both players, All-Star in their own right, don’t have have the most seamless of fits together, and the Pelicans have seen success with just Zion being the head poncho instead of sharing the top hat.
A Lauri Markkanen-Joel Embiid frontcourt would be a Philadelphian dream
Past the trade deadline, the field has been mum on the Utah Jazz’s immediate plans with Lauri Markkanen. However, expect things on that front to re-ignite once the summer begins given the expected lofty demand for the All-Star’s services.
Inarguably the biggest breakout star in the NBA last season, Markkanen has maintained his eye-popping production across the board. Problem is, the Jazz are already eliminated from playoff contention, and the conflict between his win-now value and the franchise’s inhibited rebuild is all too bold to overlook.
Utah was believed to be amenable to trading Markkanen for the right package, and their front office shuld resume operating under that idea come summer. The 76ers should quickly line up whenever they open phone lines, as Markkanen would be a terrific partner for Joel Embiid in the frontcourt.
Markkanen, who can legitimately play all frontcourt positions, would give the 76ers a much-needed trigger man on the perimeter who can also create for himself on the secondary. His presence would allow the team to play big defensively while sticking to a modern fit offensively, potentially enhancing Embiid and Tyrese Maxey’s efficiency with his gravitational pull.
The 76ers should inquire about Anfernee Simons and his trade availability
Another player stuck on a rebuild is Anfernee Simons, the 24-year-old combo guard who was poised to take the reigns from Damian Lillard as soon as he was traded. He’s registered career-highs this season in points (22.6) and assists (5.5) per outing, making him as the the inarguable best player on his young squad.
Unfortunately for Portland, the clock could soon start ticking on their partnership with Simons. Their rebuild could take quite a while to blossom, and Scoot Henderson, whom they drafted third overall in the draft, could be the better player to invest in as they try to kickstart a full-pledge reboot.
Philadelphia should capitalize on this situation and inquire about Simons’ trade availability. The 76ers are primed to make a play for a fringe All-Star like him, as their draft capital could prove attractive to a franchise that can best use them like Portland.
A Maxey-Simons backcourt would be among the league’s most explosive scoring duos. Both players are high-volume, three-level scorers who can also take on facilitating duties. The problem would be addressing their defensive miscues individually and as a pairing, but such asterisk would not be too difficult to mitigate as the front office fills out the roster.
Is Zach LaVine an inevitable trade target for the 76ers?
Mentioned numerous times as a surefire trade candidate this offseason, Zach LaVine is indeed a near-lock to be shipped out of Chicago as soon as possible. The two-time All-Star’s season was cut short due to surgery, which was also the primary reason behind him not switching clubs midway through the season.
LaVine’s decline and injury issues this season couldn’t come at a worse time for his staying power in Windy City. The Bulls have found success without him with Coby White playing well and being their break out star, and this season could be their coup de grace before an inevitable fire sale this offseason.
Having already been linked to the 76ers in the past, Philly’s brass could be in for a hell of a bargain with LaVine in a hypothetical trade. The Bulls aren’t in a position of leverage, and they would probably be satisfied with a package built around considerable draft ammo in return.
While his efficiency took a hit this season, LaVine is still a prototypical modern two-guard who can score at a high volume from anywhere on the court. He’s an adept one-on-one defender when engaged, and his secondary playmaking is valuable for a team in want of more variance in its scoring attack.
