Awesome Gesture: Atlanta Braves refurbishes Griffin High School’s baseball, softball fields after tornado

Some of Griffin High School’s athletic fields received a facelift on Thursday thanks to the Atlanta Braves.

The school unveiled a new covered batting cage and two outfield windscreens for the baseball and softball fields, the team said. Both teams also received new team apparel, cleats and travel bags from Nike.

The improvements mark the third Braves Park Project, a program dedicated to bolstering local youth softball and baseball programs. They come after a tornado devastated Griffin in January 2023, destroying homes, businesses and more.

“The Braves and Truist are committed to providing local parks and recreation centers, schools, and youth organizations with field improvements and brand-new equipment to level the playing field and increase playability, safety, and accessibility for young athletes in neighborhoods throughout Metro Atlanta and across Braves Country,” the team said in a statement.
