Just-in: The BBC analyst was astounded by the 21-year-old Nottingham Forest standout
Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has been named in the BBC Sport Team of the Week by Garth Crooks.
The defender starred in games against Newcastle and Manchester United over the festive period.
Murillo has been colossal since signing for Forest from Corinthians in a deal worth around £11 million during the summer.
Crooks raves about Murillo after Forest form
The 21-year-old has been in scintillating form since signing for Forest in the summer.
It was anticipated that he’d be a backup option but since checking in he’s commanded a place in the starting eleven.
Murillo has completed more dribbles per game than any other Premier League centre-back this season, according to Who Scored.
Furthermore, only Ethan Pinnock has completed more clearances per game than Forest star Murillo during 2023/24.
Crooks was desperately impressed with his performance during the fixtures against Newcastle and United, naming him in the Team of the Week.
He told BBC Sport: “Brazilian defender Murillo was at the heart of both displays over Christmas and was quite superb in their 3-1 win at St James Park.”
Forest defender can star under Nuno Espirito Santo
When he first broke into the team, TNT Sports commentator claimed he’d heard that Murillo was brilliant in Forest training.
It’s quite remarkable how he’s settled at Forest and it’s no surprise that Manchester City were watching him before the Reds moved.
Crooks was seriously impressed with the player over Christmas, with three other Forest players named including Matt Turner.
Murillo is only 21-years-old and the future looks extremely bright for the Forest defender under Espirito Santo.
Despite his tender years, he’s shown undoubted maturity and for a central defender, he can play out from the back.
That was epitomised during the 3-1 win over Newcastle when his clipped ball over the top allowed Chris Wood to score his hat-trick goal.
Murillo will keep developing at Forest. Espirito Santo has picked him in all three games and he looks like one of the first names on the team-sheet at the moment.
