Braves News: Braves’ Brian Snitker goes viral after scary moment vs. Giants, Draft targets, All-Star starters, Chris Sale dominates, more

Snitker took a foul ball in a very uncomfortable place.

The Atlanta Braves topped the San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Wednesday night behind Chris Sale’s strong outing, but the game was more memorable for what happened to Braves manager Brian Snitker.

Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies up in the bottom of the fifth inning and facing a 1-2 count, Albies fouled off a Jordan Hicks sweeper into the Braves dugout – hitting manager Snitker in a very uncomfortable place:

Snitker made sure to let everyone know that he was alright. The Braves TV broadcast with Brandon Gaudin and C.J. Nitkowski had some fun with it.

“That bounced right into his belly…Oh, no. Not on the belly. Never mind. That’s a different kind of belly.” “Belt buckle. Hopefully.” Brandon Gaudin and C.J. Nitkowski on the call as Braves manager Brian Snitker is hit by a foul ball in an…unfortunate spot.

“That bounced right into his belly…Oh, no. Not on the belly. Never mind. That’s a different kind of belly.” “Belt buckle. Hopefully. Does a manager wear a cup? No doubt he is saying some really funny things right now. Things that aren’t fit for air.”

Sale allowed only three hits in six innings to earn his 11th win, Kansas City’s Seth Lugo for the most wins in the majors. It is Sale’s most wins since finishing 12-4 in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox. Sale recorded nine strikeouts while allowing one run.

Sale needed only six pitches to retire the Giants in order in the first inning, which set things up for his strong start. The lefty struck out the side in the third and added two more strikeouts to open the fifth before allowing his first hit of the game.

The Braves and Giants are back at it on Thursday as Charlie Morton takes on Logan Webb in an Independence Day matchup.

Atlanta SS Orlando Arcia missed his second straight game after having an abscessed tooth removed. Snitker said Arcia had an infection and was being given protein drinks “just to get something in him.”

No word on if he’ll be able to play on Thursday.

Braves News: Draft targets, All-Star starters, Chris Sale dominates, more

Atlanta Braves news and notes from Wednesday

As the major league squad continues to search for consistent offense, the draft is rapidly approaching and our minor league team is putting out some great content. The Braves have tended to make underslot picks in the first round to save money and spread that money around later in the draft under Anthopoulos. There has been some reporting that there have been some players that they would have abandoned this strategy for, but those players have not reached the Braves. I do like the underslot strategy, especially picking later in the draft, where you don’t have access to the absolute top end talent that exists at the top of the draft. Getting more viable bites at the apple seems like a good idea, especially when the Braves’ organization clearly knows what profiles it likes to work with and has plans for each new player.

Our resident draft expert, Matt Powers took a look at one of the names most commonly mocked to Atlanta: switch pitcher (yes, you read that right), Jurrangelo Cijntje.

The Braves were excluded from the All-Star starters this season, as Marcell Ozuna or Chris Sale would have the strongest cases on the team.

Chris Sale was once again absolutely dominant for Atlanta, which is what they need to win games with the present lack of production from the offense.

Toronto’s closer, Jordan Romano will be shut down for at least six weeks following a relatively minor elbow procedure.

The Rays traded Aaron Civale to the Brewers, after trading for the starter last year from Cleveland. The Rays will get a prospect and the Brewers will add Civale to their rotation.

Former top prospect Shane Baz will rejoin the Rays’ rotation, taking Civale’s place.

The Nationals are releasing Braves’ legend Eddie Rosario, requesting unconditional release waivers, making him a free agent.
