Awesome News: Hotspurs appear to be at the verge of Sealing a Deal with a youthful Star
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly increased their interest in Al-Ittihad’s Jota, who formerly played for Celtic under Ange Postecoglou.
According to the Times (Subscription Required), Jota has been unable to play frequently for Al-Ittihad due to a rule that prohibits teams from fielding more than eight foreigners.
His last league appearance came in September but he has started in their last three AFC Champions League games, including the latest 0-0 draw at home against Persepolis. He is also believed to be available on loan.
He has been a terrible piece of business for Al-Ittihad, now because he isn’t a good player, but because they somehow planned their transfer strategy in a way where they exceeded the eight-foreigners limit. Truly strange.
He cost them £25million as well. Spurs, meanwhile, need cover. Ivan Perisic seems to be out for the rest of the season and that could also spell the end of his career at Tottenham.
Manor Solomon is also out with a knee injury until the end of the year. Son Heung-min has been shifted to play centrally in Harry Kane’s absence.
And things have been made worse by James Maddison and Richarlison’s injuries. A loan move for the 24-year-old Portuguese would, hence, make a lot of sense for Spurs.
He can provide temporary cover down the left flank and won’t set us back by a big margin which could have been the case had we wanted to buy him permanently. He has also played under Postecoglou before, which is a big bonus.
He had 28 goals and 26 assists in 83 games playing for Celtic under the Australian-Greek manager and made himself a star in Scotland before getting a move to Al-Ittihad.
