Breaking news: A £50 million player has decided not to join Tottenham before the deadline
Dean Jones has claimed that Conor Gallagher has ‘no real interest’ in leaving Chelsea to join Tottenham Hotspur ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
Tottenham continue to be linked with a late swoop to sign the Chelsea midfielder, with the Blues reportedly willing to sell their academy product.
It was claimed yesterday that Chelsea would consider offers worth around £50 million to sell Conor Gallagher this week.
Gallagher has played a key role at Stamford Bridge under Mauricio Pochettino this term. The 23-year-old has even captained the Blues regularly in Reece James’ absence and a move to Spurs would certainly be a controversial one.
But according to Jones, Gallagher is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond tomorrow’s deadline.
Gallagher has ‘no real interest’ in joining Tottenham
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that Gallagher has no interest in making the move across London at the moment.
“The chances get slimmer every day obviously,” the journalist said. “Tottenham are trying to avoid their reputation of days of old where they would go into the transfer market on the final couple of days, and kind of be persuaded to make bids that they might try to avoid any other stage.
“Ultimately, I think that there is a temptation to sign Conor Gallagher but it is not likely at this stage I think is how I’d put it. Chelsea might listen to an offer but as it stands, Gallagher has no real interest in joining Tottenham, he wants to stay at Chelsea.
“They’re in a cup final next month, he is an ever-present in the team, he’s captain at times. I personally don’t think Conor Gallagher will be leaving.”
You can understand why Gallagher is keen to at least see out the season with Chelsea.
Pochettino’s men have already booked their place in the Carabao Cup final and he’s featured regularly this term.
With 18 months left on his deal, you’d imagine the midfielder will be more inclined to make a decision over his future in the summer.
This will be a blow for Spurs as Ange Postecoglou is said to be a huge admirer of the player.
Nevertheless, the Aussie has already stated that any deals before tomorrow’s deadline are ‘unlikely’ at this stage and it would appear that Tottenham are already preparing for a busy summer window.
