Brighton interested in signing former Arsenal academy star for bargain price
Brighton are reportedly interested in making a move for prolific winger Philip Otele who had a brief spell in Arsenal’s academy.
The Seagulls have become renowned for their ability to scout and sign underrated and undervalued gems across the world who have gone onto achieve great success.
This includes the likes of Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Kaoru Mitoma and Pascal Gross.
And they’ll now be hoping that Otele can follow in their footsteps, with the Evening Standard reporting that Brighton are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old after an impressive season.
The left-winger joined top Romanian side CFR Cluj last summer and has since gone onto score 13 goals and make six assists in 30 league appearances.
The Nigerian returned to England a few years later to study at Teesside University while also beginning his career with semi-professional club Wolviston, before going onto to play in Lithuania and Romania.
Should Brighton sign him, Otele wouldn’t link up with Roberto De Zerbi’s team straight away as they plan to send him on loan to partner club Union St Gilloise in Belgium.
He is valued at just £3million and spent time in Arsenal’s academy a decade ago, but the then 14-year-old was forced to leave the UK because of visa restrictions.
Brighton are tracking CFR Cluj winger Philip Otele, who is one of the stars of Romania’s top-flight.
The 24-year-old has 13 goals and six assists in 30 league matches, having embarked on a unique pathway that has taken him from the lower leagues of English football to across Europe.
