Breaking news: Former Cowboys Player Hires Superstar Halfback

Former Cowboys Player Hires Superstar Halfback

Cole Beasley is still rooting for his former team and decided to help them out by recruiting Saquon Barkley.

Former Cowboys player took to social media Friday to recruit Giants Halfback Saquon Barkley. The Penn State prodigy is set to hit the free agent market this offseason. New York had the opportunity to sign him to an extension last offseason but decided to sign Daniel Jones instead.

We all know how that move worked out for them. New York had a disappointing season and Jones didn’t even play 8 games. Though, the quarterback didn’t perform well, he should be due for a much better season. That being said, due to this move, the Giants likely will lose Barkley.

Similar to New York, the Cowboys are set for their lead back to hit the free agency. Tony Pollard struggled due to play designs as well as an underperforming line. It would not be a surprise to see Dallas move on from him, but they may be able to keep him around on a friendly deal.

If Dallas moves on from Pollard, Barkley is one of the top backs available. He has had flashes of absolute greatness throughout his career as well as some seasons that were cut short due to injury. The injury history is a concern, but Barkley has potential for the team.

In 2023, Barkley only averaged 3.9 yards and rushed for just under 1,000 yards with 10 total touchdowns in 14 games played. This was a down year for the New York back as far his averages, but on a team like the Cowboys with a superstar in Cee Dee Lamb, it could open up his game tremendously.

Dallas does not have much cap room at all. To be able to pursue some talent in free agency like Barkley, the Cowboys would have to trade players that eat up the cap such as Michael Gallup and also restructure big contracts.

Barkley’s market is likely in the $8-10 million range, it will be more expensive than someone again like Derrick Henry, but Barkley is still in his “prime age”. For Dallas to acquire Barkley, they simply would need more cap space. Expect it to be another season where Cowboys find a way to make space through restructuring contracts.
