Breaking news: The one in which we fire Mr. Joe Barry
The Green Bay Packers have lost back-to-back games following poor defensive efforts in which they were unable to stop the formidable Tommy DeVito and Baker Mayfield. That will be at the top of defensive coordinator Joe Barry’s obituary, whether he is dismissed before this week’s game against the Carolina Panthers or at the end of the season. It’s all over.
Acme Packing Company’s Evan “Tex” Western and Justis Mosqueda analyze where the Packers’ likely defensive coordinator opening ranks among possible NFL jobs in this episode of The Repack. While Green Bay fans may believe it’s an ideal job, our pair discusses why agents and coaches may disagree.
Remember, the Packers will most likely be looking to fill a defensive coordinator position after two seasons of being below.500. That’s hardly a lot of job security. Meanwhile, a defensive coordinator joining a team with a new head coach has at least three years before the coaching staff is cleared out. That’s before even considering if a coach prefers to live in Green Bay or a major city.
The Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders, for example, have already changed head coaches and are slated to appoint a new defensive coordinator. Consider yourself to be a coach’s agent. Is it simpler to pitch signing a deal in Green Bay, possibly with the coaching staff on the hot seat starting in Year 1 of your contract, or better weather and a longer runway on the West Coast? This is something to think about.
While everyone agrees that Barry’s time is up, don’t be surprised if the Packers fail to “win the press conference” with their next defensive coordinator choice. They may make the ideal hire for their future, but don’t expect it to be a household name in NFL circles. Because of the changes at that level of the game, expect a showy name to come from someone leaving the collegiate ranks.

Green Bay Packers Fans Have the Same Response On Twitter After Losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15
The Green Bay Packers were defeated 34-20 at home by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon, their second loss in a row. The Packers fall to 6-8 on the season and are currently out of the playoff picture. On Sunday, many supporters blamed the loss on someone other than quarterback Jordan Love: defensive coordinator Joe Barry.
The defense was horrendous for the second consecutive game despite recording five sacks in the contest. They gave up a perfect passer rating to quarterback Baker Mayfield, who has been up and down all season long for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He completed 22-of-28 passes for 381 yards and four touchdowns in the contest. His passer rating was 158.3. This upset the Packers fanbase a lot.
Green Bay Packers Fans Want Joe Barry Fired After the Loss Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Most of the Packers’ difficulties this season can be attributed to one person: defensive coordinator Joe Barry. After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur was asked if he would make a defensive coordinator change during the season, and he said that now was not the time.
Green Bay didn’t do well against Tommy DeVito and the New York Giants. They gave up 24 points to them. The New Orleans Saints only gave up six points on Sunday against the New York Giants and this is why Packers fans want to see Barry gone.
This is what Green Bay fans tweeted after the game on the Packers Twitter page:
The truth of the matter is that there are several more of these tweets on the Packers’ Twitter page. The blame was on the defensive coordinator and it seemed like no one else deserved the blame for the loss. Green Bay’s defense has cost them several times this season and not necessarily Jordan Love.
A lot of other Green Bay Packers fans mentioned the fact that this is what Aaron Rodgers has dealt with several times when he was the quarterback of this franchise. Hopefully, at the end of the season head coach Matt LaFleur does not bring back Joe Barry and they can learn from their past mistakes.
