Awesome: Tottenham has Agreed to Terms with Chelsea’s Key Star.
Tottenham Hotspur appear to be backtracking on a January bid for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
Tottenham Hotspur have cooled their interest in Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, according to Ange Postecoglou.
That is according to a report from Sky Sports, who claim that Tottenham are now backing away from the race for Chalobah.
The 24-year-old was a target for Tottenham on deadline day with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Spurs had approached Chelsea over a loan deal for Chalobah.
Spurs were allegedly still keen to thrash out a move to sign Chalobah in January but it sounds like the interest is fading…
Tottenham Hotspur cool Trevoh Chalobah interest
Sky Sports now claim that Tottenham are backing away from the race for Chalobah’s signature.
It’s suggested that Tottenham have concerns about Chalobah’s injury situation ahead of the January transfer window.
Chalobah is out until January with a hamstring problem and will have spent six months out by the time he returns.
That is seemingly putting teams off; reports from Germany indicate that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund feel similarly about Chalobah.
Tottenham are now thought to be seeking elsewhere for a new defender, having abandoned their interest in Chalobah.
That will be a setback not only for Chalobah, but also for Chelsea, with Mauricio Pochettino reportedly planning to trade him in January.
Who could Tottenham target instead?
We believe Tottenham will prioritize a left-footed defender over a right-footed defender like Chalobah.
Micky van de Ven has been excellent this season, but he requires cover and competition in the left-sided center defense position.
Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth appears to be the ideal target for us; English, left-footed, Premier League experience, some untapped talent, and nearing the end of his contract.
When you consider that he already knows Tottenham manager Matt Wells from their time together at Bournemouth, this move makes a lot of sense.
Tottenham supposedly scouted Union Saint-Gilloise defender Koki Machida on Tuesday, adding another name to the mix.
The 26-year-old is another left-footer with pace, and Postecoglou’s knowledge of Japanese players might push him ahead of Chalobah in January.
