Wilson will sign a major league contract for this reason, according to the Cincinnati Reds.
Justin Wilson, Who Opted Out of Dodgers Contract, To Sign With Cincinnati Reds
Pitcher Justin Wilson, who last week opted out of his minor league contract with the Dodgers and became a free agent, has reportedly joined the Cincinnati Reds.
The 36-year-old left-hander struck out nine batters across four innings in Cactus League play with the Dodgers. He still faced a tall task cracking the Dodgers’ bullpen, particularly after it became apparent that left-handed swingman Ryan Yarbrough would begin the season as a reliever.
Between Yarbrough and Alex Vesia, Wilson likely figured there wasn’t room for a third left-hander in the Dodgers’ relief corps. By opting out before the end of spring training, Wilson allowed himself time to latch on with a major league team before the start of the regular season.
The Reds, by virtue of the back injury to Young, ostensibly had more of an opportunity to offer than the Dodgers. Cincinnati is a familiar destination for Wilson, who made 26 appearances for the Reds over the last two seasons.
