Clive Allen describes Tottenham’s £27 million player as’magnificent
Tottenham Hotspur icon Clive Allen has praised Giovani Lo Celso following his impressive performance for Spurs last time out.
The Tottenham cult hero, speaking on the latest episode of Inside Spurs, says Lo Celso‘s display against Bournemouth was “without a doubt” his best for the club.
Lo Celso is the latest player to revive his Tottenham career under the tutelage of new boss Ange Postecoglou.
After years of uncertainty and a number loans away from N17, he is finally playing regularly – and well – for Spurs.
Admittedly, things haven’t been plain sailing for Lo Celso this season either, as he suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for all of September.
However, the £27million man has played in eight of Tottenham’s last nine games, only missing the Nottingham Forest match due to an injury.

On New Year’s Eve, Lo Celso delivered an outstanding display to help Spurs run out 3-1 winners against the Cherries, registering two assists in the match.
The 27-year-old helped set up Pape Matar Sarr for his ninth-minute opener, and then provided a sumptuous through-ball for Son Heung-min to make it two on 71 minutes.
“I have to say, I thought this was his best performance for the team,” Allen said of Lo Celso on Inside Spurs as he and Ben Haines provided analysis on the march.
“This is quite brilliant. Off the outside of his left boot, he picks the run of Son, but the way that he executes the pass is absolutely superb.
“That is magnificent, and Sonny just lets it roll off of his thigh in front of him and fires the ball in the back of the net.”
Allen also spoke about how Lo Celso helped to ease pressure on the Tottenham defence, and launch quick counter-attacks.
He said: “There were a number of examples where he has that ability, the confidence, when he’s in a defensive position, defensively under pressure… to run the ball out from a dangerous area.
“When he’s picking up the ball, love the way he drives forward, commits players… his best game for us so far, without a doubt.”
Another example of Ange Postecoglou’s Midas touch at Tottenham
It’s great to see Lo Celso going from strength to strength at Tottenham after being given a chance by Postecoglou.
The Spurs manager has done amazingly well to get a number of Spurs players back to their best after seemingly being surplus to requirements.
While Tottenham are far from the finished product – strength in depth and offloading players is something they’ll have to address over the next few windows – everything seems to be on track with Postecoglou at the wheel.
