In a stunning turn of events, the baseball world is abuzz as Juan Soto’s future has officially been decided — and it’s not with the New York Yankees. After months of speculation and trade rumors, the Yankees’ superstar will *not* be staying in the New York. Instead, sources confirm that Soto will be heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers, in a deal that has shaken up the MLB landscape.
Reports surfaced early this morning that the Dodgers and Padres have reached a trade agreement, sending Soto to LA in exchange for a package of top-tier prospects and a few major league-ready players. The move is seen as a massive win for the Dodgers, who were in hot pursuit of the 25-year-old slugger after his breakout seasons in Washington and San Diego.
Soto, known for his elite on-base skills and power-hitting ability, brings an instant boost to the Dodgers’ already potent lineup. The Yankees, who had been the frontrunner for Soto’s services for weeks, were reportedly unable to match the Dodgers’ offer, despite a strong push from general manager Brian Cashman. Though Soto was initially expected to be part of the Yankees’ long-term plans, the allure of Los Angeles — both as a baseball powerhouse and with its deep pockets — proved too much to resist.
Soto’s arrival in LA gives the Dodgers even more firepower, adding to a star-studded lineup that already includes Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Clayton Kershaw. Dodgers fans are already celebrating the acquisition, with many speculating that Soto’s presence could be the final piece to secure another World Series title for the team. The Padres, for their part, are expected to use the assets they’ve received in the trade to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season. While the loss of Soto is a blow, they are optimistic that this move will help them build a more well-rounded team moving forward.

Dodgers ‘heavy favorite’ to sign Japanese phenom as international free agent
The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series in 2024. At the center of it all were Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Dodgers are expected to pursue another Japanese phenom in Rōki Sasaki.
During a Bleacher Report livestream, Major League Baseball insider, Jon Heyman revealed that the Dodgers are a “heavy favorite” to land the star being posted by the Chiba Lotte Marines.
“I think the Dodgers are the heavy favorite for Rōki Sasaki,” said Heyman. “Fantastic pitcher and the belief is he wants to go to the Dodgers. We heard west coast for Yamamoto. Other teams didn’t believe it and it turned out to be true. He ended up going to the Dodgers. Dodgers have a great thing going, certainly with Ohtani and Yamamoto. Sasaki has seen how well they’ve done.”
Sasaki is an amateur free agent because he is not 25 years old yet. That means teams will only be able to use funds from their international signing bonus pool allotment to get him. The 2024 period ends on December 15 and the Dodgers have $2.5 million remaining. However, when the 2025 window opens on January 15, the Dodgers will have $5.1 million at their disposal.
Sasaki had 129 strikeouts in 18 games in Nippon Professional Baseball in 2024. He is a two-time NPB All-Star. His skills were on full display during the World Baseball Classic where his 100 mph fastball and splitter mowed through lineups.
Sasaki has the potential to be a No. 1 starter and the Dodgers could get him without spending huge like they did to add Yamamoto last offseason.
