Huge-Congrats! Jannik Sinner the 29th world No 1, but where does he rank in terms of youngest to top ATP Rankings?

Jannik Sinner is set to join an esteemed list of players to be ranked No 1 in the world as he will climb to the top after the French Open.

He will become the first Italian to top the ATP Rankings on June 10 as he will replace Novak Djokovic at the top. Tennis great Djokovic has been top of the rankings for the past 39 weeks as he replaced Carlos Alcaraz on September 10, the day after he won the US Open to move to 24 Grand Slams.

While Sinner will start his first week at No 1 next week, Djokovic has spent an astonishing 428 weeks at No 1 in total with his 10th stint set to come to an end.

Sinner No 29 At No 1

Sinner, Djokovic and Alcaraz are three of 29 players to have topped the rankings since it was first introduced in 1973 with Ilie Nastase of Romania having the honour of being the first-ever world No 1.

Sinner No 14 In Terms Of Age

Sinner will be aged 22 years, nine months and 25 days when the rankings update on June 10 and he is some way away from Alcaraz’s record for the youngest-ever world No 1.

The Spaniard is the only teenager to be world No 1 as he was 19 years, four months and seven days when he first became world No 1 on September 12, 2022, breaking Hewitt’s record (20 years, eight months and 23 days).

Safin is the only other player to top the rankings before turning 21 as he was 20 years, nine months and 24 days back in November 2000.

After Alcaraz, Hewitt and Safin, six players were aged 21 when they first became world No 1 and they are: McEnroe (21 years and 15 days), Roddick (21 years, two months and four days), Borg (21 years, two months and 17 days), Courier (21 years, five months and 24 days), Sampras (21 years and eight months) and Connors (21 years, 10 months and 27 days).

Sinner will become the sixth 22-year-old to be ranked No 1 and he is the 14th youngest overall.

Nadal (22 years, two months and 15 days), Rios (22 years, three months and four days), Federer (22 years, two months and 25 days) and Moya (22 years, six months and 19 days) are ahead of him in the queue of 22-year-olds with Lendl slightly older at 22 years, 11 months and 21 days.

The record-breaking Djokovic was 24 years, one month and 13 days when he first became No 1 in July 2011.
