If Darnell Savage leaves the NFL in free agency, the Green Bay Packers are expected to target the weapon of an NFC North rival

There is no assurance that safety Darnell Savage will be back with the Green Bay Packers in the 2024 NFL season. He even sounded as though he was ready to start his next chapter somewhere else after the Packers suffered a loss in the NFC divisional round against the San Francisco 49ers. The uncertainty for Green Bay’s secondary doesn’t end there as there are speculations of Jaire Alexander potentially splitting ways with the squad in the offseason.

Enter Aaron Schatz of ESPN, whose big prediction for the Packers in free agency is that the team will compensate for a Savage loss in free agency by acquiring Detroit Lions safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

A Potential Darnell Savage Replacement for the Green Bay Packers Could be in Detroit

Gardner-Johnson was traded by the New Orleans Saints in 2022 to the Philadelphia Eagles before he signed a one-year deal with the Lions worth $6.5 million in March of 2023. The former Florida Gators star barely played in the 2023 NFL regular season due to injuries but was able to see action and make an impact on all of the Lions’ three games in the playoffs, including in the division round when he recorded an interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It is uncertain at the moment how much interest there is out there in Gardner-Johnson, who was a fourth-round selection by the Saints in the 2019 NFL Draft, but he could be a worthy gamble as an addition for the Packers.
