Dennis Allen under Fire: Saints confirm multiple roster moves, Key Players Affected Ahead of….See Details

Change is coming for the New Orleans Saints, but it may not be the earth-shaking moves at the top of the organization some fans are calling for after a six-game losing streak. The Saints shuffled the bottom of their depth chart by bringing several players onto the practice squad this week. They’re also welcoming a couple of other players back to practice after they spent time on the injury lists.

Here’s what you need to know about each roster move ahead of Week 9’s game with the Carolina Panthers:

OL Sincere Haynesworth released from the practice squad

Haynesworth re-signed with the Saints just last week, so he’s already on the outs again. This could be a good sign that injured blockers like Nick Saldiveri may be on the way back, but we’ll see. It’s probably still too soon to hope for Erik McCoy’s return to the lineup.

DB Tre Herndon signed to the practice squad

Herndon tried out at New York Giants training camp this summer after spending the first six years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s mainly played cornerback with nearly as many snaps out wide (1,502) as in the slot (1,269). A season-ending broken leg for Paulson Adebo and a recurring hamstring injury for Marshon Lattimore mean Alontae Taylor is moving around and not playing as many snaps in the slot, so it makes sense to add depth there.

RB Jordan Mims signed to the practice squad

Mims was waived last week but is back after clearing the waiver wire. It’s interesting that the Saints will have multiple running backs on their practice squad but Kendre Miller suffered another hamstring injury (not the same leg as what kept him out for all of training camp and the first month of the season, though) and they clearly feel like they need the depth.

RB Jacob Kibodi signed to the practice squad

Kibodi, the preseason fan-favorite running back, wasn’t included in Tuesday’s list of transactions so he was announced on Wednesday instead. His return to the practice squad was reported first by Saints News Network’s John Hendrix and confirmed by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.

LB Nephi Sewell designated to return to practice

Sewell suffered an ACL injury late last season and has spent the time since recovering from knee surgery. He’ll have 21 days to practice and prove he’s ready to return from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

OL Shane Lemieux designated to return to practice

Lemieux is in the same position as Sewell; he can practice for the next 21 days, at which point the Saints must choose whether to activate him from injured reserve or be shut down for the year. He was the first man up when Erik McCoy suffered a serious injury, but Lemieux was hurt not long after which led to more disruption at center.
