Double Deals: Astros superstar to reunite with Houston on $185M deal, as Mets star agrees on $174 million contract with Astros…See Details

The Houston Astros have some money to spend and it’s a big question about whether or not they will bring a superstar back to town.

Houston’s biggest question mark right now clearly is whether or not star third baseman Alex Bregman will be back in town in 2025. Bregman has spent his entire nine-year big league career with the Astros and was an integral piece for two World Series-winning Astros clubs.

Bregman has been a superstar throughout his run in Houston but he will be highly sought-after this winter. There has been a lot of speculation that he could end up leaving the club, but The Athletic’s Jim Bowden predicted he will instead sign a $185.5 million deal to stay in Houston.

“The Astros sign center fielder Cody Bellinger, after he opts out of his contract with the (Chicago Cubs), to a four-year, $112 million pact,” Bowden said. “Houston also re-signs third baseman Alex Bregman for seven years and $185.5 million.”

Bringing Bregman back would secure the third base position for years to come. He will be one of the most sought-after free agents for a reason. He clearly can still play at an elite level and is just 32 years old. He has plenty of good years left and the Astros should do everything they can to keep him around.

Houston can afford a deal of this nature and Bregman is worth it. Hopefully, the two sides can work something out this winter once free agency fully kicks off.

The New York Mets’ payroll will be easier to work with this offseason, and that could lead to some big additions.

New York already has been linked to big-name players like Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, and Max Fried, to name a few. It’s been expected that the Mets are going to spend heavily this winter and could land one or two superstars.

The Mets do have an internal star to worry about as well, though. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and Mets star first baseman Pete Alonso is going to be highly sought-after in free agency this winter.

Could he land back with the Mets this winter? Certainly. But, it is completely up in the air right now. A handful of teams certainly will be interested in him, and FOX Sports’ Rowan Kavner suggested the Houston Astros as a free-agent landing spot for Alonso.

“The Polar Bear saved some of his best work for last,” Kavner said. “Will his late-season heroics be enough for Steve Cohen to pay up to keep him in Queens? A reunion might be the most likely scenario. Alonso has been durable, but as enticing as his 30-plus homers might be, his defensive deficiencies, rising strikeout rate, and a batting average that has plummeted the past two years bring risk as he approaches his age-30 season.  Possible fits: Mets, Astros, (Seattle Mariners), (New York Yankees), (San Francisco Giants).”

The Astros will be looking to fill the first base spot, and Alonso will be one of the best out there. Hopefully, his time isn’t ending with New York. He will be expensive this winter, could a deal be on the way with the Astros?
