Latest NBA Trade: Former Celtics forward signing deal with East rival according to the Deal, the veteran is expected to…..
Former Celtics forward Marcus Morris is signing with the Cavaliers on a 10-day contract according to a report from Shams Charania of the Athletic.
It will be the fourth team this season for Morris who was most recently waived by the Spurs on February 29. Morris had been dealt to San Antonio as part of a 3-team trade to allow the 76ers to acquire Buddy Hield back on February 8.
Morris began his season with the LA Clippers but was traded to his hometown team in Philadelphia as part of the deal that landed James Harden with the Clippers. Morris did receive some opportunity as a reserve forward with the 76ers, averaging 6.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game but has struggled on the defensive end. Ultimately, he was moved to clear the path for Hield in Philadelphia as a salary-matching piece and did not play a minute with the Spurs before securing his buyout.
Morris could be a candidate for minutes with the Car who are dealing with a host of injuries in the frontcourt including one with star big man Evan Mobley (sprained left ankle). All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell is also expected to miss more time as he deals with a sore knee. The Cavs are currently the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference and are sitting just a game behind the Bucks.
Morris will be eligible to play as soon as Monday against the Pacers and will be helpful for the Cavs in a busy stretch for depth since they have six total games in the next 10 days. Cleveland has an open roster spot so they will not need to make a corresponding move to complete the signing for Morris.
