After the Los Angeles Dodgers secured the NL West division title on Thursday, Shohei Ohtani’s father, Toru Ohtani, shared a heartfelt message about his son’s growth this year.
According to Toru, Shohei has undergone significant personal changes since marrying Mamiko Tanaka earlier this year.
Speaking to Japanese journalist Naoyuki Yanagihara following the Dodgers’ win over the San Diego Padres, Toru explained how marriage has brought a new sense of calm and balance to Shohei’s life, both on and off the baseball field.
“Marrying Mamiko has been a major milestone for Shohei,” Toru explained in an emotional speech.
“I’ve noticed he’s playing baseball with more composure.
Without Mamiko-san, Shohei wouldn’t be the player or person he is today.”
Ohtani’s move to the Dodgers has been perfect
This year has been a pivotal one for Shohei Ohtani, beginning with his much-anticipated move from the LA Angels to the Dodgers during the offseason.
Shortly before the start of the season, Ohtani also revealed that he had married Mamiko Tanaka, a personal milestone that his father believes has had a profound effect on his mindset and performance.
On the field, Ohtani has been nothing short of remarkable. He made history as the first MLB player ever to achieve a 50-50 season, with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases.
His incredible form was instrumental in helping the Dodgers secure the NL West title and has earned him his first opportunity to compete in the MLB playoffs.
Toru Ohtani highlighted how his son’s personal life has positively impacted his professional success.
“His marriage has brought balance to his life, and it’s clear Mamiko has been a calming and supportive influence,” he concluded.
