  • There is plenty of action this Thursday in matchday 4 of the Europa League
  • Liverpool, Brighton, West Ham and Rangers are the British sides in action
  • Bayer Leverkusen, Roma and Marseille are all in action on the continent

The Europa League group stage will reach the halfway point this week, with teams focusing on qualifying for the competition’s knockout stages.

There are four European clubs in action this weekend: Liverpool travel to Toulouse, West Ham seek payback against Olympiacos, Brighton visit struggling Ajax, and Rangers host Sparta Prague.

Table-toppers in the Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen is also competing, and Roma, Villarreal, and Marseille are among Europe’s top clubs in the competition’s group stage.

The two British teams in action this Thursday are Liverpool and Brighton, both of which face difficult trips abroad.

Brighton won their first European match against Ajax at the Amex Stadium last time out, but they now go to Amsterdam to try to climb Group B. While their Dutch opponents have struggled this season, now sitting 11th in the Eredivisie, John van’t Schip’s side has won two consecutive league games to snap a ten-game losing streak.

Liverpool will head to Toulouse knowing they are almost probably secured qualifying after winning three of their first four Group E games. The Reds thrashed their French opponents 5-1 at Anfield two weeks ago, but Toulouse had plenty of chances against Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Roberto De Zerbi confirms vital player’s return ahead of crucial Europa League match at Ajax.

Pervis Estupinan could return for Brighton against Ajax on Thursday night (November 9), according to Roberto De Zerbi.

The Ecuadorian was a major player of this Brighton team until he was replaced at halftime of a 6-1 loss to Aston Villa on September 30 due to a muscular issue.

The 25-year-old is the team’s only natural left back, and his absence has had a bad influence on the team, which has gone five games without a league win.

De Zerbi provided an injury update at the Johan Cruyff Arena, saying, “Estupinan is with us, coming on the bench.”
