Before facing the Atlanta Hawks, the Boston Celtics hear injury updates on Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday.
The Boston Celtics are preparing for a tough matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, but they will be without Kristaps Porzingis. According to Kaley Brown of Boston.com, the Celtics stated that the star center will be out due to a calf injury suffered in Friday’s game against the Orlando Magic.
Despite the setback, Porzingis shared a positive update on Instagram, expressing optimism about his recovery: “Good news this morning. Be back very soon,” Brown wrote.
The Celtics are disappointed since he has been a crucial player this season, averaging 18.9 points, 54.7 field goal percentage, 5.2 defensive rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. Porzingis’ absence will be felt on the court against the Hawks.
Jrue Holiday, another important Celtics player, is labeled as ‘questionable’ for the upcoming game. Holiday did not play against the Magic on Friday due to an ankle sprain, despite being listed as ‘likely’ to do so. The 33-year-old guard’s defensive prowess and offensive contributions have been crucial for the team, averaging 5.4 defensive rebounds, 39% three-point shooting, and 3.8 assists per game in his first season in Boston.
Holiday’s scoring production has slowed from the beginning of the season, when he averaged 15.2 points per game in his first seven games. He only scored five points in 35 minutes against his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks. The Celtics will be glad to get him back on the court, especially after their 113-96 loss in Florida without him.
The Celtics, who are currently 6-0 at home, play the Hawks on Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern Time. The Celtics will seek to preserve their home-court domination in what figures to be a difficult matchup despite the absence of Porzingis and the uncertainty surrounding Holiday’s availability.
