Following his broken hand in the Warriors defeat, Raptors star Scottie Barnes will be out indefinitely

The Toronto Raptors suffered a significant blow on Friday night as star player Scottie Barnes sustained a left-hand injury during their 120-105 defeat against the Golden State Warriors at Scotiabank Arena.

The Raptors confirmed that Barnes fractured the third metacarpal bone in his left hand, and the severity of the injury leaves the forward out indefinitely.

The unfortunate incident occurred late in the second quarter when Barnes’ hand collided with a teammate’s foot. While attempting to defend a shot at the rim, Barnes’ left hand was kicked by teammate Immanuel Quickley, leading to a visible moment of distress for the 22-year-old. Later, Barnes was subbed out just before halftime and did not return to the game.

The Raptors are yet to disclose the exact timeline for Barnes’ recovery or if surgical intervention will be required to address the fracture.

In his third season in the league, Barnes had been enjoying a career-best performance, averaging 20 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. The 6-foot-9 forward earned his first All-Star nod this season and has been a vital asset for the Raptors since being drafted as the No. 4 overall pick in 2021.

Despite Barnes’ early departure, the Raptors held a three-point lead at halftime, but the Warriors capitalized on the absence of the influential player. The third quarter proved challenging for Toronto, managing only 19 points, allowing the Warriors to surge ahead and secure a convincing 15-point victory.

Warriors’ Stephen Curry led the charge with 25 points, hitting 7-of-15 from beyond the arc, while Jonathan Kuminga contributed 24 points. The win marks the Warriors’ third consecutive victory and their fifth win in six games since the All-Star break, bringing their season record to 32-27.

R.J. Barrett led the Raptors with 23 points, supported by Kelly Olynyk, who started the second half in place of Barnes, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Immanuel Quickley added 12 points and 11 assists in the losing effort.
