Chris Paul has better career than Allen Iverson, claims ex-NBA champ in striking take

Former NBA point guard Jeff Teague recently made a surprising statement on his podcast, where he claimed that Chris Paul has had a better career than Allen Iverson. Teague argued that while Iverson was more influential, Paul’s longevity and accolades gave him the edge.

Jeff Teague‘s comments came after he claimed that Wake Forest, his and Paul’s alma mater, was better than Georgetown, which Allen Iverson attended. His co-host disagreed, saying Georgetown had Iverson, but Teague argued that Chris Paul was just as good.

Chris Paul is just as good as Allen Iverson bro, for real. His career is actually better than Allen Iverson’s. His career is better than Allen Iverson’s. He is not more influential than AI, no way, but his career? Jeff Teague said on his podcast, Club 520 Podcast

Paul has played 19 NBA seasons, compared to Iverson’s 14, and has been selected to 12 All-Star Games, one more than Iverson. Paul also has a stronger defensive record, with seven NBA All-Defensive First Team selections and nine overall.

Overall, both players have had incredible careers, but Paul’s longevity, defensive prowess, and accolades make a strong case for his career being considered better.

Chris Paul’s free agency, Lakers and Spurs lead the pack

The Golden State Warriors are expected to decline the $30 million team option on Chris Paul’s contract, which will make him a free agent this summer according to reports by Marc Stein in his latest newsletter. Despite being 39, Paul still has a place in the NBA, but just not at that price.

The Spurs and the Lakers keep coming up as potential suitors for the Warriors’ Chris Paul if Paul becomes a free agent this offseason. Paul’s longstanding friendship with LeBron James and his well-known desire to stay as close to his L.A.-based family as possible certainly add credence to the notion of the Lakers’ signing him. Marc Stein wrote in his newsletter

The Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs are potential suitors for Paul. The Lakers need depth and Paul’s relationship with LeBron James could make them a good fit. Paul’s desire to be close to his family in LA also makes the Lakers an attractive option.

The Spurs are looking for point guards to play with reigning Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama and while they prioritize a younger starter, however, adding a veteran like Paul as a backup could work. Paul will have options and Steve Kerr has expressed his admiration for coaching him, hoping he returns to the Warriors.
