It would appear that the league did conduct an investigation into the matter, and has come to a conclusion as on Thursday afternoon it was announced that the Philadelphia 76ers were going to be fined $75,000 for their failure to report Embiid’s injury prior to the game.
To be more specific, the announcement cites the Sixers’ failure to “include Joel Embiid on the team’s injury report in an accurate and timely manner for the team’s game on Saturday, Jan. 27 against the Denver Nuggets.”
The league noted Philadelphia’s previous infractions of the league’s injury reporting policy when making their decision, which includes their failure to report Ben Simmons out against the Nuggets back in January 2021, and Embiid’s absence against the Miami Heat in May 2022 during the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
While the Sixers violated the league’s rules surrounding injury reports, they didn’t find any infractions regarding their player participation policy due to Embiid’s sore knee being a “confirmed injury”.
