Draymond Green predicts LeBron James’ next team
LeBron James is widely expected to re-sign with the Lakers as a free agent this offseason. The Athletic reports that the Rob Pelinka-led front office is “open” to offering the four-time NBA champion a three-year max contract worth $164 million to remain in Los Angeles.
Draymond Green, though, wonders if his fellow Kutch Sports colleague has decided on his next — and likely final — destination in the NBA.
“Some people think it’s a foregone conclusion that ‘Bron is going back to the Lakers,” Green said on “The Draymond Green Show” recently. “I don’t know if it’s a foregone conclusion. I think if there was something that came about that was interesting, I think he’d look at it. But ultimately, I don’t quite see him leaving L.A. I just don’t really see it. We shall see… But I definitely think changes are coming to the Lakers organization — I dont know what changes, but they’re coming, because it’s the Lakers. They want to win, and that’s just the standard.”
The Pistons are projected to have north of $70 million in cap space this offseason, but their developmental situation makes them a non-viable destination for an aging James.
As for contenders, the Sixers, Thunder and Magic are projected to have the most cap space. Even the Spurs, with Victor Wembanyama entering his second year, have the flexibility to open up a max slot for James. Wouldn’t James and Wemby as teammates make for a fascinating sight?
James’ next stop will obviously be a huge talking point until July.
During his season-ending presser, the 39-year-old refused to confirm if the Game 5 loss to the Nuggets marked his final game as a Laker. James smiled and said, “I’m not going to answer that.”
