The Hawks’ Dejounte Murray is being pursued by the Lakers, Knicks, and Nets

According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are pursuing Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray.

The Hawks are widely expected to trade Murray before the February 8 trade deadline.

Murray is averaging 21.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 46.9% from the field, 39.1% from beyond the arc and 82.1% from the free-throw line. The Washington product and one-time All-Star is making $17.7 million.

The Hawks signed Murray to a four-year, $114 million extension in July. Murray, one of the top two-way players in the NBA, will make $24.8 million in 2024-25 and $26.8 million in 2025-26.

Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Murray’s agent. Paul represents Lakers superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, which is why numerous people around the NBA believe Murray will land in Los Angeles.

According to NBA insider Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times, the Hawks wanted Immanuel Quickley and a first-round pick from the Knicks for Murray. Trade talks between the Hawks and Knicks didn’t go far and New York wound up trading Quickley and RJ Barrett to the Toronto Raptors for OG Anunoby.

Murray views the Nets as an ideal trade destination, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. Brooklyn is looking to get more talent around Mikal Bridges.

A Seattle native, Murray has career averages of 14.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks with the San Antonio Spurs and Hawks. He made the 2017-18 All-Defensive Second Team and won the 2021-22 steals title as a member of the Spurs.
