Joel Embiid Injury: Is Nick Nurse Optimistic About a Return? Sixers head coach Nick Nurse confirmed that Embiid…..
Fans of the Philadelphia 76ers were anxious over the last two days, awaiting the news regarding Joel Embiid and his most recent setback.
While the big man has been dealing with knee inflammation over the past month, which has caused him to miss games on multiple occasions, the big man suffered another knee-related setback on Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors.
Late in the game, Warriors veteran Jonathan Kuminga dove for a loose ball. When he landed on Embiid’s knee, the Sixers’ seven-time All-Star stayed on the floor, clearly in pain. Although he managed to make it up off the floor and back to the locker room on his own power, Embiid was ruled out for the remainder of the matchup.
Following Tuesday’s loss against the Warriors, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse confirmed that Embiid was dealing with an injury that was unrelated to the one that forced him to miss two games in a row before he returned against the Warriors.
Embiid received an MRI after Tuesday’s game and underwent further evaluation on Wednesday. Results revealed an injury to the lateral meniscus, according to a team official. So far, a timeline hasn’t been set. Based on Nick Nurse’s initial reaction, the Sixers don’t seem to fear they have lost the All-Star big man for the remainder of the 2023-2024 NBA season. “He did say he’ll be back,”
Nurse said, according to 97.5 The Fanatic. “He’ll be back and ready to go. When that is, we don’t know, but we’ll be looking forward to that, and we’ll help him get there.” Embiid missed the Sixers’ Thursday night matchup against the Utah Jazz on the road. He’s guaranteed to remain off the floor on Saturday when the Sixers host the Brooklyn Nets.
Beyond that, Embiid’s timeline remains unknown right now. According to a team official, a treatment plan is still being finalized as of Thursday night.
Nurse seems optimistic Embiid will return — but there are still a few questions left unanswered at this time.
