Three possible targets for a deal in shooting guards as of the 2024 NBA deal…..
While shooting guard isn’t a big position of need for the Philadelphia 76ers, there are still players that could help improve their depth out in the trade market.
With the NBA Trade Deadline just around the corner I have began writing articles about players the Philadelphia 76ers can target in hypothetical trades. Thus far, I’ve only covered the point guard position so this article I will focus on the shooting guard position. All trades have been on Fanspo.com and approved.
3 potential shooting guard trade targets heading into the Trade Deadline: Bruce Brown Jr.
At the beginning of this season, it would have been unthinkable that Bruce Brown Jr. would have been avaible in trade. The Indiana Pacers had made signing Brown their big offseason move and he was making positive contributions to their roster. However, everything changed when he wasn included in the trade that landed the Pacers Pascal Siakam.
Now Brown is on the Toronto Raptors who are bound for a rebuild by trading Siakam and OG Anunoby this season. Brown just won a title with the Denver Nuggets last season as their sixth man and it would be a smart move by Toronto if they traded him to get young players and/or draft picks in return.
Brown is a Swiss army knife type of player who does a little bit of everything. He can defend multiple positions, set screens, and playmake a little but his shooting is a bit inconsistent.
This season, Brown is averaging 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 steals while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the 3-point line. Besides his outside shooting being less than ideal, Brown would still improve Philly’s bench. Below is a potential trade to land him.
Honestly, offensively the Sixers give up a lot for Brown, Morris is a regular offensive spark plug off the bench for Philly and House is solid when called upon. However, the intangibles that Brown would bring to Philly makes this trade worth it for the Sixers. The Raptors get two expiring contracts and a second-round pick.
One could make the argument that Alex Caruso is the biggest acquisition on this list and I push back too much on that. Let’s be clear. Caruso isn’t an All-Star level player, but he is a star in his role as a 3-and-D guard. In fact, it wouldn’t be too bold to state that Caruso is one of the best role players in the NBA, if not the best role player.
