The Houston Texans are rumored to be interested in Green Bay Packers breakout player

The Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans are interestingly in similar situations entering the 2024 season.  Both teams made the playoffs and won in the wild card round.  Coincidentally, both teams lost in the divisional round.  However, both Houston and Green Bay feel extremely confident about their future, specifically at the quarterback position.

With such bright futures on both sides, the Texans may try to lure a breakout player from the Packers in 2023.

The Green Bay Packers Could Lose Breakout Defensive Back To The Houston Texans

The 2023 regular season saw Ballentine record a career-high 43 tackles (28 solo), an interception, and seven passes defended.

As a result of injuries in the secondary, Ballentine played 463 defensive snaps for the Packers in 2023, a career-high number, and he even started six games. In the divisional round, he played just three defensive snaps against the 49ers. During the offseason, he will look to find a position in a depth role as a free agent.

With the question marks surrounding the Packers’ secondary going into the 2024 season, it would be surprising to see them move on from Ballentine without trying to re-sign him.  However, it is also unlikely the Packers will get into a bidding war with another team.  If Houston offers a significant contract (for his role) it would be hard to imagine Ballentine passing that up.

Breaking Down The Green Bay Packers Draft Needs On Offense

The 2023 Green Bay Packers draft class turned out to be a stellar one. Credit to general manager Brian Gutekunst. For the first time in his tenure, he put together a quality draft class from top to bottom. But, like with all NFL teams, it is the time of year for teams to re-load. Today, we take a look at what offensive positions might be looked at for this year’s Green Bay Packers draft class.

Breaking Down the Green Bay Packers Draft Needs on Offense

In the 2023 NFL Draft, Gutekunst and the Packers made 13 selections. Out of those 13 picks, seven of those players came on the offensive side of the ball. What makes Gutekunst’s offensive selections so impressive is that out of those seven picks, four of them were key contributors in their rookie seasons.

Only two players, Lew Nichols and Grant Dubose didn’t make the opening day roster. However, Dubose was re-signed to the practice squad where he spent all of 2023. Nichols was cut but was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. The third pick was quarterback Sean Clifford. He spent last season as Jordan Love‘s backup.
