Reports: The Las Vegas Raiders’ Running Back is Open to a 1-year Extension
The rushing offense of the Las Vegas Raiders took a step back in production compared to last season. They ranked 17th in 2022 and fell to 30th in 2023.
With roughly $42 million in cap space, Las Vegas could address the running back position in free agency or through the draft. They could also bring back their leading rusher, who might be open to a 1-year extension.
Reports suggest that the running back for the Las Vegas Raiders may be interested in a 1-year contract.
Josh Jacobs does not want a multi-year contract unless he’s offered a big contract but also doesn’t mind a 1-year extension, according to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda.
“There’s been a lot of talk about the pending free-agent running back market at the combine. I’m told the Las Vegas Raiders continue to negotiate with Josh Jacobs. Word on Thursday night was that Jacobs does not want a multi-year contract unless the numbers are huge and would be happy with a one-year deal to stay with the team.”
Jacobs signed a 1-year deal last offseason.
Las Vegas franchised tagged Josh Jacobs, but he never played on it because he refused to sign it. Both parties eventually agreed to a 1-year deal worth up to $12 million on August 26.
Jacobs underperformed in 2023 and had the fewest yards per attempt, the fewest rushing yards, and the fewest rushing touchdowns in his career. He appeared in 13 games, rushing for 805 yards on 233 attempts and six touchdowns, and had 37 receptions for 296 yards.
Jacobs suffered a quad injury in Week 14 and missed the last four games.
Raiders’ GM is interested in re-signing Jacobs.
Tom Telesco is committed to bringing Jacobs back.
“Doesn’t bother me that I didn’t draft him,” he added. “He’s a Raider and he was drafted by the Raiders and he’s a high-level player. So yeah, we’re going to explore pretty hard to see if we can bring him back here. As a player in the running game, pass game, pass protection, he can really help you win games.”
