First of all, for the first 10 years of his career, not only was John Elway not elite, he was just average at best.
John Elway’s 1st 10 seasons:
54.7% CMP / 7.0 YPA / 158 TD / 157 INT / 73.8 RATING
Even for his era, those numbers were garbage.
There are 15 QBs from 1983-1992 (John Elway’s first 10 years) that started at least 80 games. Elway ranks 14 out of 15 in passer rating, beating out only journeyman QB Jay Schroeder. And the thing is, this ten year window includes old QBs like 10th round pick Steve DeBerg from age 29 to 38, who still beat Elway.

Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets are down a 0-2 hole after losing again to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Surprisingly, Draymond Green came to the guard’s defense after he wasn’t suspended for his antics in that contest.
In the second game of their series against each other, the Wolves went home with the 106-80 win over Denver. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns exploded with 27 points each to lead their team to victory. Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker contributed a total of 28 points to help cover Rudy Gobert’s absence due to the birth of his son.
For his part, Murray was horrible in Game 2 when he only shot 16 percent from the field on his way to eight points in almost 36 minutes on the court. Nikola Jokic was also a detriment on offense as he only connected 38 percent of his field goals and ended the game with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Meanwhile, Michael Porter Jr. dropped 20 points to lead Denver.
With less than five minutes in the first half, Murray was on the bench and threw a heat pack on the court while the game was going on. His act was blasted as a harmful one and prompted the league to slap him with a $100,000 fine.
Draymond Green Defends Decision Not To Suspend Denver Nuggets Guard Jamal Murray In Game 2 Loss to Minnesota Timberwolves
Among those who have given their take on the matter is Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green. He shared his thoughts in an article written by Ben Axelrod for Awful Announcing:
“It’s crazy how people just automatically start calling for suspensions these days. I just don’t really understand that. But in saying that — man, Denver’s down bad right now,” Axelrod wrote.
Furthermore, Green acknowledged that Murray’s act was very dangerous for guys playing on the court at that time. The Warriors star added he thought the Denver guard was going to be suspended for his actions.
At this point in time, Murray already apologized for his actions. It remains to be seen whether he’ll let his game do the talking when the Nuggets meet the Anthony Edwards-led team in Game 3 soon.
