MLB insider evaluated Alex Bregman’s decision to join the Boston Red Sox
On Monday, MLB insider Jon Heyman released a report with the New York Post, in which he talked about Alex Bregman’s Boston Red Sox signing. Apart from the Red Sox, Bregman was offered multiple deals from different teams, including the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs made an offer of $115 Million for 4 years, to Alex Bregman. However, according to Jon Heyman, it was due to the massive difference of $5 Million, which played a significant role in Bregman’ decision to reject Cubs and join the Red Sox.
“The Cubs and Red Sox apparently were Bregman’s preferred destinations, but Chicago’s best offer of $115 million over four years couldn’t touch winning Boston’s $120M over three, even with significant deferrals in the Red Sox deal,” Heyman said.
Even though it’s been almost a month since Alex Bregman joined the Boston Red Sox, he has started to take care of his leadership roles. Recently, manager Alex Core launched praises for Bregman’s leadership abilities.
Before Cora, shortstop Trevor Story made headlines for highlighting his non-famous friendship with Bregman. Story’s statement came during an interview with MLB Network on Wednesday. Talking about how he used to live in Bregman’s house, Story said:
“I didn’t live in his house but I stayed there for about a week back in my free agency. He was kind of recruiting me to come to Houston and now we’ve flipped the script and I was recruiting him a little bit.”
“We’ve been close over the last few years, just talking ball. As everyone knows he’s a bit of a baseball rat, he’s come to me with a lot of different stuff on how I can be better, you know vice versa. It’s just a good friendship and I’m happy that he’s here,” Story further added.
Before joining the Boston Red Sox, Alex Bregman played with the Houston Astros. Even though his departure was definitely an event of shock for fans, Twins’ star Carlos Correa expressed no surprise over Bregman’s decision.
