Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride is one of the top young offensive players in the NFL.
The 25-year-old tight end broke out in a major way during the 2024 season, clinching his first Pro Bowl selection after ranking second among all tight ends in receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,146). He also ranked fourth overall in the NFL in receptions.
“It was so surreal,” says McBride in a one-on-one interview. “This is something I’ve dreamed of for a very long time, and to finally make my first Pro Bowl, to be talked about in the same conversation as some of these unique players that I’ve played for so long, it’s such a huge honor. I’m excited to get to Orlando, excited to be around those guys, excited to do the whole Pro Bowl thing. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m just geeked out to get out there for sure.”
McBride’s breakthrough season saw him up his totals from his 2023 season in which he produced 81 receptions for 825 receiving yards. The third-year tight end credits his productive season to the growing connection and chemistry with 27-year-old Kyler Murray.
“I think just the comfort, just to be comfortable in this league, to have the ability to play and staying healthy, obviously all that stuff goes into it,” says McBride. “Most importantly, I think just the connection Kyler and I have, building that relationship, continue growing with him and I think the sky’s the limit for our team and where we can go with that.”
The 6-foot-4 tight end’s breakthrough contributed to the Cardinals’ surprising 2024 season. Although they ended up finishing the season 8-9, they were in the playoff hunt at the end of the year, leading the NFC West towards the end of November with a 6-4 record. However, they lost five of their last seven games, leading to the Cardinals missing the playoffs for the third consecutive season.
McBride entered the NFL in 2022 and is still seeking his first playoff appearance. He outlines that as his core objective for the 2025 season.
“ Yeah, that’s 100%,” McBride says when asked if making the playoffs is his core objective next season. “Obviously you play this game to win and to be the best. I think just having a chance to compete in the playoffs, a chance is all we need to go out there and play these really good teams.”
“I want to see the Bills upset the Chiefs this weekend,” says McBride. “I think the whole country’s pulling for that. That would be cool to see Josh Allen and the Bills do that. Obviously, Kliff Kingsbury was my head coach and Jayden Daniels is having a tremendous rookie year. I’m kind of pulling for those guys (Commanders). I’d love to see those two in the big game.”
As far as who he sees winning the big game, McBride predicts the Bills and mentions he’s a big fan of Allen.
“I want the Bills,” says McBride. “I think Josh Allen is a tremendous player. I have a whole lot of buddies on that team. I think it would just be cool for those guys to win a championship.”
McBride is speaking on behalf of his partnership with Rockin’ Protein made by Shamrock Farms, a local Arizona-based company that sells products nationwide.
“When building this partnership with them, the first thing is they’re an Arizona-based company,” says McBride. “They’re right in my backyard. They’re right where I play football. I think that was something that was important to me because I wanted to be with someone who was local and in the community, — but not only just in Arizona, they sell their products nationwide.”
He says the products have such a high dose of protein and it tastes “phenomenal.” McBride singles out vanilla as his favorite flavor of Rockin’ Protein and stresses that it’s pivotal for when he practices, works out and plays in games.
“It’s something that I drink regularly,” says McBride. “It’s something that’s super easy. It’s such a high dose of protein and very convenient, easy and it helps me perform the way that I do.”
