Red Sox’s Rafael Devers Addresses Third Base Drama In Boston
It was just a little over a week ago when Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers stayed resolute in his position not to give up third base. With each passing day, it appears as if everything between Devers and Red Sox management has been forgiven.
On Tuesday, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo had the chance to interview Rafael Devers at his locker in the Red Sox clubhouse.
When asked about the third-base situation, Devers remained steadfast in his belief that he should be the Red Sox’s third baseman. However, he also clarified that he and the Red Sox have no ill will toward each other.
“I’m not frustrated. I don’t have the need to be frustrated about anything with anybody … My family is good. My kids are good. I have no reason to be frustrated about anything. I don’t listen to what’s said. I don’t pay attention to what is said. I just know what I’m capable of. I’m happy being this way.”
Devers continued, confused as to why his comments made so many headlines. He emphasized that his only focus is winning and building chemistry within the Red Sox clubhouse, concentrating solely on playing third base and preparing for the new season.
Red Sox fans should expect Devers to be back in action in the middle of next week as he continues to ramp up his workload following his recovery from shoulder issues.
While there is no guarantee that he’ll start at third when the Red Sox open their season in Texas, Devers maintains that his relationship with manager Alex Cora remains strong, as Cora is someone he “respects a lot.
Ultimately, Devers’ comments are a testament to the cohesiveness of the Red Sox team. Despite some outside commentary, there is nothing but love and respect between Devers and newly signed All-Star Alex Bregman, who called it an honor to be Devers’ teammate.
Rest assured, this Red Sox team is focused solely on winning, something they plan to do a lot of in 2025.
Red Sox Third Baseman Rafael Devers Will Get to Play His Preferred Position
Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced which position Rafael Devers will play in his spring training debut, and for now, it appears his game of hardball is working.
Devers will play third base a week from Wednesday in his Grapefruit League debut, Cora told reporters in the Sox’s spring training camp Tuesday.
According to Ian Browne of MLB.com, Devers’ long-term position is not yet settled, as “no decisions have been made” as to whether he or Alex Bregman will be the team’s primary third baseman in 2025.
Boston signed Bregman, the reigning American League Gold Glove Award winner at third base, to a three-year, $120 millionfree-agentt contract earlier this month. If Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow ran the decision to sign Bregman by Devers — who’s under contract to Boston through 2033 — they apparently came to no consensus around which veteran will be the team’s primary third baseman.
