So far, Atlanta has traded for Jarred Kelenic, Chris Sale, and Aaron Bummer while adding Reynaldo Lopez, David Fletcher, and Luis Guillorme via free agency.

The engineer behind all those moves, and the myriad of team-friendly extensions Atlanta has managed to secure through the years, will be around for a very long time after recent developments took place on Friday.

“The Atlanta #Braves have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Alex Anthopoulos that will keep him with the club through the 2031 season,” the Braves announced on Twitter.

General managers and presidents of baseball operations don’t usually enjoy contracts that long.

They usually have three or four-year periods to show they can successfully run baseball operations of a specific team.

Such is the Braves’ faith in Anthopoulos that they are locking him up through 2031.

That is insane, but gives the franchise a sense of long-term stability and security.

He has been in front of the Braves since 2017, winning six straight NL East titles since 2018.

He also appeared in two NL Championship Series and in one World Series, winning it in 2021.

He achieved extremely team-friendly extensions with Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, Spencer Strider, and other stars.

Anthopoulos has been the main man behind the Braves’ sustained success, and is getting some deserved job security.
