David Moyes makes surprising Spuerstar admission…..
The Hammers manager started the 28-year-old during our clash with Bournemouth on Thursday night, but he had a bit of a nightmare debut.
Phillips was put under real pressure by a terrible pass from Kurt Zouma inside the first few minutes of the game and gifted the Cherries the lead.
Despite the fact that that goal was more Zouma’s fault than his, he was really poor on the whole, but Mohammed Kudus spoke after the game about how the England international just needs time to settle into life in East London.
Phillips began yesterday’s clash with Manchester United on the bench, before being brought on for the final 20 minutes or so, and in fairness he wasn’t very good at all.
So what’s the real problem with Kalvin?
David Moyes makes baffling Kalvin Phillips admission
The Scot addressed the media after the Man City owned midfielder’s slightly concerning start at West Ham.
And Moyes suggested that Phillips isn’t currently at the level he needs to be:
If Moyes knew that Phillips would need time to get up to speed, why on earth did he start him against Bournemouth last week?
It’s just an utterly bizarre admission to make from the Scot as far as I’m concerned. It has been clear for anyone to see during our last two games that Phillips is nowhere near the levels he needs to be.
It’s no surprise – he hasn’t started a Premier League game since May after all! I love the 28-year-old and rate him very highly indeed. However, he will definitely need a few weeks to get up to speed as far as playing games at the highest level is concerned.
There is absolutely no way that David Moyes should have started Kalvin Phillips on Thursday night, and the Scot’s latest remarks on the midfielder just prove to me that he’s not entirely sure what he’s doing right now when it comes down to team selection.
