Eagles reportedly won’t be signing Star Safety…..
After what turned out to be an absolutely disastrous end to the NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles headed into the offseason with a lot of uncertainty moving forward, as there were rumors galore of potentially drastic changes.
Although all eyes were on the coaching staff and whether the team’s brass would fire head coach Nick Sirianni, the team also had glaring issues on the football field on both sides of the ball.
Fortunately for Philadelphia, NFL free agency has been kind to the franchise thus far, with the team making a major splash this week by agreeing to terms with star running back Saquon Barkley.
Apparently, the team isn’t done making moves as they were going after one of the best safeties in the league in former Denver Broncos star Justin Simmons, who Sean Payton and company recently released.
Unfortunately, according to reporter Derrick Gunn, Simmons’ asking price is too high, and the Eagles will pass on bringing him in to bolster the secondary.
Simmons would be a great addition to most defenses in the NFL and the Eagles would’ve been no different, as he can be a game-changer on that side of the football.
The 30-year-old is coming off his second Pro Bowl season in Denver, where he recorded three interceptions, two passes defensed, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 53 solo tackles for the Broncos.
It’ll be interesting to see where Simmons lands in free agency and how much he gets paid in his next deal, as he will certainly upgrade the defense for whichever team decides to sign him.
