JUST IN :Green Bay Packers Expected To Add Patrick Mahomes Former All-Rookie To Defense Prior To Facing…
The Green Bay Packers sit at 5-6 heading into Week 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs. With the Seattle Seahawks’ loss on Thursday Night Football to the Dallas Cowboys, the Packers could slide into the final NFC Wild Card spot with a win over the 8-3 Chiefs.
Obviously, that won’t be an easy task, however, the Packers have been playing their best football as of late. The Jordan Love-led offense has been firing on all cylinders and the defense has been getting pressure on the opposing quarterback. Prior to facing Patrick Mahomes on Sunday Night Football, the Packers may get a boost to that defense.
With Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs next up on the schedule, the Green Bay Packers are hopeful that their secondary will get a little healthier this week with the return of starting safety Darnell Savage.
“Potentially,” said Matt LaFleur on Monday when asked about Savage being activated off IR. “That’s the goal. That’s the hope. But we were hopeful that he potentially was going to be back last week and he wasn’t. So we will take it in stride and go through the week and see where he’s at.”
During the Packers Week 6 matchup with Denver, Savage aggravated a calf injury that ultimately landed him on IR. He was designated to return and rejoined the Packers at practice last week, opening up a three-week window for him to be added back onto the 53-man roster.
Getting depth in the secondary will be big for the Packers’ defense as they prepare to take on one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
At the start of the season, the Packers were concerned about safety, and Savage has started 65 games in five seasons at that position for the Packers. Getting that experience back will be big.
